207 - Year of the Fire Horse

207 - Year of the Fire Horse
Wat Suthat Thepwararam this week

🇹🇭 Hot on the heels of Friday 13th we have Valentines Day on Saturday and then the Annular Eclipse kicking off the Year of the Fire Horse on 17th February. Plenty of energy in the field and I expect this will not pass off without something noteworthy. You may or may not see it immediately but with hindsight this will mark a significant point in time that will become apparent. Remember the last one in October 2023.

Last weekend there was a General Election in Thailand. Surprising many, the result was a win for the Conservative BJT party and current Prime Minister. Unlike in Japan there is no overall majority so there will now follow plenty of wrangling to form a coalition. Also, despite the apparently conservative vote, voters apparently approved starting the journey toward a new (yet-to-be-written) constitution - one aimed at moving beyond the military-era framework of 2017. Expect years of discussion on that. Bottom line - little changes for now but there are plenty of loose ends that can, and likely will, be used by the Empire when it needs to stir up unrest and discontent in the population.

On Sunday I had a fun afternoon out and dinner, cycling with the group around Bang Kachao - the Green Lung of Bangkok. Many interesting people to meet and talk with - including some from previous years and visitors from Canada, UK, Germany, Austria, Japan and Russia. We had some deep and interesting discussions and welcome to the new subscribers!

Apart from that we had the regular Satoshi Square Bitcoin meetup on Monday and Bob Space is running a couple of sessions on Self Custody, the first one is this Friday 13th.

V and I have been taking things easy, enjoying our early morning swims in the pool on the roof and Bangkok's excellent parks. Many of the shops and malls are getting decked out to celebrate Chinese New year. They seem to be expecting plenty of visitors from China this year - let's see. Photos will follow next week.

BTW Fire Horse years are associated with the Yang-Fire element, symbolising action, speed and transformation through movement. The Horse represents progress, exploration and the pursuit of personal goals, with the Fire element intensifying these traits into a period of rapid change and high energy. 1906 was a Fire Horse year - remembered for the San Francisco Earthquake, the Courrières explosion (Europe's worst ever mining accident) and attempted regicide of Spanish King Alfonso XIII and Queen Victoria Eugenie on their wedding day, resulting in the deaths of 24 bystanders. It was also the year that the RMS Lusitania launched - only to subsequently be the trigger for the USA to join the First World War in what is now known to be yet another false flag event.

Interview of the week

This week I was very happy to have listened to James' recent discussion with Peter Duke. Peter is a photographer, technologist, and independent publisher. James and Peter chat about the Pacific Palisades fires (in which Peter lost his home), Rupert Murdoch, Stephen Spielberg, Richard Branson, Sharon Stone, who decides which Hollywood scripts get made, the linguistic codes embedded within Jesus’ teaching and loads of other really interesting stuff.

What a fascinating interview - listen and learn

One of the surprising snippets from the interview is David's clarification of the real definition of λόγος (logos). Rather than interpreting it simply as "the word" (as we have all been told) he goes back to the original Greek usage which is: "that which can be done with words". Consider how this changes some familiar text - especially when you take into account what we now know about words, spells and manifestation:

In the beginning was [the word] that which can be done with words, ....and that which can be done with words [the word] was God.
John 1:1

He promotes his substack and photography work - both of which I suggest you check out:
SubStack: https://thedukereport.substack.com
Photography Website: https://www.peterdukephoto.com

All of this led me to an equally interesting discussion that he had with Hrvoje last year:

And then, listen to his earlier discussion with Hrvoje

To be clear - I do not agree with everything that he says in either of these interviews but he seems to be particularly well-connected and comes across honestly in both of these interviews. Like me, he also recommends The Ethical Skeptic and Ethical Skepticsm. I found the discussion on hypnotism and how politicians work to be particularly insightful. WDYT?

🛠️ Project Updates

This has been quite a hands-on week with a lot of debugging, fixing and infrastructure work. What are you doing?

Lenovo repair and upgrade

I have been continuing on the Sovereign Computing track to ensure that everything is working properly. You really do need to use the machine as your daily computer for a few weeks to ensure that you have got everything you need working. There have been a few challenges along the road but all have been overcome.

First up, after working perfectly for months the laptop screen started flickering and displaying "snow" intermittently. Seems this does happen on some older machines. Fortunately the fix was just a simple LCD panel replacement - all done in less than one hour. You can even do it yourself once you know how! Advantage of these Lenovo computers is that spare parts are widely and cheaply available and all PC repairers can fix them.

It is easier than you would expect - I would unplug the battery too

The next step was to upgrade the 512GB NVME to 2TB. The hardware upgrade is simple but transferring all data and applications takes some thought. You have several options: you could use Clonezilla that should do it all for you but it somewhat unintuitive, as Chris explains and demonstrates. I opted instead to check my backup arrangements and restore from them - like that you can check that your backups really do work and you get a fresh install and just the things you need. This is best practice.

Use this time also to ensure that your disk is LUKS encrypted. You have to set the disk as LUKS encrypted when you format it - you cannot do it later, so do that first. This is absolutely essential the security of your data.

Make a note of all the recovery steps that you do - write it in your notebook. In the days that follow you will find things that were missed, so fix them and refine your list. Things to check for are: seldom-used programs, hidden files and directories, $PATH and other environment variables and ssh keys. You can thank me later should you ever need to do recovery from backup "for real".

Matt and Alex explore the cutting edge

Alex Gleason was one of the main architects behind Donald Trump's Truth Social. Now he focuses on the intersection of Nostr, AI, and bitcoin. In this discussion he and Matt explore open source AI agents, such as OpenClaw (formerly Clawdebot and then Moltbot) and the wider implications of the tech on society. Spoiler - it is much more than you imagine!

Things really are progressing at unprecedented speed and while I hesitate to recommend you jump into using these tools you need to be aware of them. Also as they discuss, with the downsizing of many IT jobs there are now more and more people who have the right skills and mindset to take this technology forward. Perhaps that is you?

VPNs - good to know

Several subscribers have recently been asking me about VPNs. They recognise the privacy benefits and also the ability to bypass tyrannical controls, aimed at restricting what you can see and access. The following are good choices to consider and have for when you need them:

Mullvad is the simplest privacy-first option: you create an anonymous numeric account, pay anonymously, and the service logs almost nothing. Its apps (OpenVPN and WireGuard) are straightforward, torrent-friendly, and regularly audited. If anonymity and a minimal footprint matter most, Mullvad is hard to beat. The Mullvad Browser is also interesting - maybe not as your main browser, but certainly as your alternative - it is based on Firefox.

IVPN is a small, independent provider that emphasizes transparency and user control. It offers multi-hop connections, modern protocols, and a clear no-logs stance, with features tailored to privacy-conscious users who still want a polished client. IVPN often sits between Mullvad’s minimalism and ProtonVPN’s feature-rich approach — a good choice if you want stronger built-in privacy options without a complex interface.

ProtonVPN brings the heaviest feature set and a strong privacy pedigree (Swiss jurisdiction). It offers Secure Core (multi-hop through privacy-friendly countries), Tor over VPN, NetShield ad/tracking blocking, audited apps and there a free tier to try before buying. ProtonVPN is generally best for users who want advanced features, streaming support and those who already use other Proton services.

A quick summary

The following are links from my NetNewswire feeds - learn, enjoy and share.

The Great Detachment

Thanks to Tom for pointing this out - and it is different this time. The Great Resignation promised freedom, but in 2026 most workers feel more stuck than ever. This video breaks down wage slavery, burnout, economic pressure and why escaping the 9-5 feels harder now than before. If work feels pointless, exhausting and inescapable — this explains why.

Tom explains thing pretty clearly - WDYT?

If your work taking more than it is giving back? What will you do about it? He is right that savings should be for retirement and emergencies; what he does not seem to recognise is that saving in fiat currency guarantees that you can never stop. If you are still mystified - check out and read "Broken Money".

Never too old to learn...

Even James Corbett learned at least 15 things from the Epstein files. As always, James does a great job in researching and filtering the information and then presenting clearly the things that you really ought to know. How many did you learn? Perhaps your journey is just beginning or perhaps you are already an old hand here? Either way, James' monologue is well worth a listen and he gives you all necessary links here.

There are still more than 3 million pages of evidence that have been withheld, apparently because they are even worse than what we have seen so far. If you are in any way confused as to how this could be possible, remember we have discussed that this was all laid out for you in Anatomy of the State - you can read and listen to it here for free.

Do you see it yet?

Dan did indeed foresee much of the current turmoil as he demonstrates in this summary. We are far from done yet and the Eclipse does likely mark a significant milestone on what is surely coming down the pipeline.

🤔 Closing Thoughts

From time to time people ask me how and where they can best get an overview of all the topics that Jason covers in Archaix and what is his position on various topics, based on all the research that he has done.

I recommend these two explainers to get you going: in the first you will get the Big Picture - the key concepts you need to know and understand; in the second he lists 64 topics on which many have sought his position. Now you know!

What Archaix demonstrates
In this expansive live stream presentation, Jason of Archaix delivers a defining monologue that serves as both a “state of the union” for his community and a primer on the core tenets of his research. He frames the broadcast as an “Archaix for Beginners” session, intending to synthesize years of

64 Tenets of Archaix
The “64 Tenets of Archaix” form a comprehensive list of core principles, historical claims, and philosophical assertions outlined in a single thread from March 9, 2025. These “positions” form the foundational worldview of Archaix, covering topics like ancient history, resets, simulations, and reality constructs. Here’s the full list as presented:
