88 - November in Hong Kong

🇭🇰 Already November! Last weekend V and I travelled Bangkok to Hong Kong. The travel was relatively smooth and it was certainly nice to arrive in a fairly busy HK Airport though it is still nothing like as busy as it used to be. We have a nice little apartment in Wan Chai (near the Blue House) - so it is handy to just about everything.

As for the rest of Hong Kong, this too seems to be somewhat back to normal albeit with only half to two-thirds of the normal number of people in the streets and shops. Maybe that is because many of them are queueing in the Driver Licensing office - I had to go there to renew my HK driving license. The queues are immense and zig-zag across a room with about 1,000 people in it and 40 counters to deal with all the queues - seems it is like this all day every day!

Having seen the queues, I remembered it is said that: "in Hong Kong you can get anything you want - you just need to pay for it". So it was that I decided I wanted not to queue; there are many entrepreneurs around who are happy to queue for you and do all the necessary interaction with the Empire administrative machinery. Perfect service for a few hundred HK Dollars and you get everything done in day while you get to do something more useful with your time.

Halloween seems to have come and gone uneventfully. I did pass above LKF and while the crowds were large there was a total absence of atmosphere and the bars along Wyndham Street had plenty of space! There was much more atmosphere here in Wan Chai, Lee Tung Avenue - quite a family evening out. Here in Wan Chai was certainly the more enjoyable place to be.

The weather in HK this month is fantastic - November really is the best month to come to HK. Perfect for hiking, BBQ and every outdoor activity you can imagine. I was happy to do my favourite hike up the Morning Trail to the Peak during the week and I have a hike planned Saturday with my hiking group - as I write this around 70 people are going along - should be fun to meet old friends again and new ones too!

Of course we had to go to the Happy Valley Races on Wednesday evening. We had a fun evening out with a few friends. It always amazes me how many people have lived more than 10 years in HK and never been to the races! Likewise many have lived here and never gone hiking - go figure!

I also managed to fit in the NostrAsia conference this week - more on that in the project section.

Podcasts of the week

I have a few select podcasts to recommend this week - you likely do want to check them out. They contain information that the mainstream propaganda sources rather ignore and/or suppress and these will affect you and everyone you know.

Unelected Bureaucrats are out of control

Guy explains what the EU is up to and how they hid all of this behind all the other distractions that were going on in the news. The evil is unfathomable.

Click to watch - do not miss this one - evil incoming

And Neil has uncovered yet more insights on the details of the dystopia that they are working on. Do you know anyone that voted for this or supports it in any way?

Do not skip this one - required watching

The nonsense they talk in these "discussion papers" is beyond belief - and the last thing that they want on any of this is discussion.

One from the archives

Sharing with you another wake-up call. It is not just US and Swiss banks that are fraudulent and going bust. The entire financial system is beyond corrupt. Guy explains here the behaviour of just one regional European and UK bank. This is a video from one year ago, but I am re-sharing it here after a discussion with one of my subscribers who missed it and found it rather relevant and important.

And Matt K does an interesting and insightful summary of the significance of this event, contrasting it with the performance of a few of the Empire clowns.

Listen carefully to this one

Taproot Assets have been around for about a year. When I first heard of them it sounded interesting but my interest faded as my faith in fiat currencies diminishes - why would anyone want to hold a diminishing asset. The reality around the world though is that the weaker fiat currencies are collapsing and (just like always) people want to get out of the worst currency into a better one and in many places around the world this is the US dollar. This update changes the thinking.

BTC153: Bitcoin’s Taproot Asset Protocol w/ Ryan Gentry
BTC153: BITCOIN’S TAPROOT ASSET PROTOCOL W/ RYAN GENTRY 24 October 2023 Preston Pysh talks with Lightning Labs’ Ryan Gentry about the latest software development that brings stable

Listen and learn to this fascinating interview. You will see that contrary to what misleaders will tell you this actually builds on everything standard within Bitcoin and Lightning today and it is entirely optional to use. What it enables is that Bitcoin can act as a fully independent value translator - they do this with their Taproot Assets. You need to think about this and the implications before giving a knee-jerk reaction.

Nostr comes to Asia

After Nostrica in Costa Rica the latest Nostr conference is out here in Asia. The main stage was in Tokyo with HK being a secondary location, running concurrently. I was here in HK and got to meet quite some interesting people and we had access to the event running in Tokyo in addition to some local developers on stage in HK - there is lots going on and ideas aplenty.

I am working through my notes and will be following up on the most interesting projects in the coming weeks - watch out for updates and info here. Meanwhile a couple of headline observations:

  • Here is an interesting discussion on one of the key values that Nostr delivers - that of Data Sovereignty. All content producers should appreciate this.
  • Listen and learn as Bob explains how Payments can be re-imagined - indeed Nostr is Bitcoin's L3.

The following are links from my NetNewswire feeds - learn, enjoy and share.

1871 - of course this is not taught

So you you know what happened in 1871? Why might this be hidden and not taught? Grace explains:
