How Vexl Transactions Work
Vexl is a peer-to-peer (P2P) Bitcoin trading app that operates without escrow or institutional intermediaries. Since there is no built-in escrow service, the process for completing transactions relies on direct communication and mutual agreement between trading parties.
Completing a Transaction
To complete a transaction in Vexl:
- Arrange trade details via encrypted chat — Once you accept an offer or someone accepts yours, you communicate directly with the other party through Vexl's encrypted messaging to agree on meeting location, payment method, and Bitcoin transfer details.
- Execute the trade — For in-person trades (the recommended method), meet at the agreed location and exchange cash for Bitcoin. For online trades, coordinate the transfer through your preferred payment method and Bitcoin wallet [3:1].
- Confirm receipt — The receiving party should verify they have received:
- The cash payment (for sellers)
- The Bitcoin in their wallet (for buyers)
Marking as Successful
Since Vexl has no escrow mechanism or automated "mark as successful" button, the transaction is effectively complete once:
- Both parties confirm satisfaction through the chat
- The Bitcoin transfer is confirmed on-chain or via Lightning Network
- The cash has exchanged hands
Important: Vexl does not maintain transaction records or trade statuses. The app only facilitates finding and contacting trading partners. The actual completion and confirmation happen outside the app through direct communication and blockchain verification.
Best Practices for Safety
- Use in-person cash trades when possible — this is considered the "gold standard" for Vexl users
- Verify the other party's identity if needed (Vexl allows optional identity revelation)
- Wait for sufficient blockchain confirmations before considering a Bitcoin transfer complete
