156 - Five years on - do you see it yet?
There is always something here!

🇹🇭 CNY and Valentines day have now passed and Bangkok is a bit quieter again. The next public holiday here is Equinox on 20 March, so this is the time to relax and enjoy the sunny weather.

V and I have been out and about around town and I have been meeting up with Newsletter subscribers here in Bangkok. Lots of interesting discussion. The weather in Bangkok is slightly cooler at 34 degrees and we have occasional showers to change things up a bit. Best times to be out are early morning and late afternoon.

During the week I also noticed that the screen on my trusty CalyxOS phone was coming loose. You might recall that Elvis replaced my cracked screen for me about 18 months ago in Hong Kong. Deeper inspection showed that the battery was swelling and this pushed the screen loose. Happily, here in SE Asia things like this are quickly solved. A short trip to MBK Mall and USD$ 25 got me a nice new battery while I waited and it is really like having a new phone again.

We had the usual Bitcoin meetup on Monday, back at the location where we had the 10-year party last year. I had some great discussions with rather interesting bitcoiners and it was nice to meet people that I had not seen since last year's party! It seems like we are back into roaming locations again after a good spell in Soi 23. We also had a meeting at BoB Space with HRF and Bitcoiners from the Greater Mekong region.

This week also marks some interesting anniversaries. For one, it is a year since my operation here in Bangkok and I am fully recovered and have restarted yoga. I can recommend the 30 minute Bikram sequence in the morning and yin yoga in the evenings. Yoga in the mornings gives you energy for the day and yoga in the evenings gives you the deepest and most restful sleep ever.

Another anniversary is that it is now 5 years since we needed "2 weeks to flatten the curve". Check my diary entry from 3 years ago: a full 2 years after that initial lie. Hopefully by now you are awake to the lies and crimes that have been committed.

You will likely appreciate that the Covid times have passed (that was first seal) and we are now in the time of the second seal when yet more state crime and "unveiling" takes place - just look at the news these days and you will see it. Do read this week's Closing Thoughts for deeper insight on what is happening and what comes next. Be aware and observe but do not participate or give this your energy.

For those of you who are just waking up to this I recommend "Anatomy of the State" as a starter book to explain things. It is freely available in PDF and Audiobook and at only 60 pages, you can read it in one hour.

Book of the week

This week I was again back to reading fiction. I recently enjoyed Alice in Wonderland, so the next logical book was Through the Looking Glass. The verbal imagery in this book is spectacular and it will certainly exercise your brain as you get to grips with all the possible interpretations.

Alice Through the Looking-Glass - Anna’s Archive
Lewis Carroll Alice climbs up on the fireplace mantel and pokes at the wall-hung mirror behind the fireplace and d Fantastica

The story is set on the other side of the mirror that Alice picks up from the mantlepiece. As such, pretty much everything is backwards or the opposite of what you would expect - where have you heard that before? It is set in a game of chess and each of the characters (pieces) follows its own rules and Alice too is supposed to follow the rules. I came across this possible interpretation and while I do not agree with all the points and the narration style can be a bit annoying, I think much of it and the conclusion pretty much nails it.

For those of you who prefer audiobooks I recommend that you check out LibriVox. This is very much the audiobook equivalent of Project Gutenberg for books. It is quite nice to read your ePub or PDF copy while listening to the audiobook.

For those of you who want to take things to the next level - go to Annas Archive. This is the largest open library on the planet. It consolidates many other repositories (including archive.org and libgen.rs) into one searchable archive. You will likely want to subscribe and support this initiative - this is also possible with Bitcoin and Monero and all of this can be accessed using Tor browser.

Annas Archive will likely become even more important with the imminent action by Amazon. As I have told you many times, none of the Big Tech companies can be trusted. Increasingly you will want to opt out of their dragnet.

🛠️ Project Updates

With the tightening of the screws by the empire my focus this week is on technology that allows you to opt out of their controls. The more who do it, the better for everyone and the easier it gets.

First - de-google your phone

I came across this excellent explainer for options on de-googled phones. If you use iOS, you have to accept that you are part of the Apple Machine and you need to adopt Henry's recommendations. This is a very broad sweep of all that is available. My recommendation goes to GrapheneOS and I know some who use Volla Phone. CalyxOS is also a good choice. If you have experience or questions, speak up!

Apple is Evil too

As I pointed out to you recently, Apple also cannot be trusted. The latest revelations about the UK Government demanding access to data of all Apple users worldwide and banning Apple from even mentioning or talking about this ought to wake you up.

Getting off Apple is no easy feat but there are steps that you can and should take to protect your data and to demonstrate your opt out. The first is to turn on "Advanced Data Protection". In principle, using this this ought to render the UK Government's demand impossible to implement, at least for your data. Whether this really works or not, it seems only prudent to enable this feature while you still can - just click below for the simplest explanation and step by step guide.

Click to watch and learn - then just DO IT

Longer term, I am evaluating options to further reduce my dependence on Apple services - open source and Linux feature highly in this.

The following are links from my NetNewswire feeds - learn, enjoy and share.

Evil Amazon - you have been warned

Starting on February 26th, 2025, Amazon is removing a feature from its website allowing you to download purchased books to a computer and then copy them manually to a Kindle over USB.  This also prevents you making your own backup of the books that you purchased.

This is a reminder that you don’t actually own much of the digital content you consume, and without the ability to back up copies of ebooks, you could lose them entirely if anything happens to your amazon account and amazon. You are watching them prepare for re-writing history and forcing you to accept new terms and conditions due to your "sunk cost". George Orwell warned you and now it is happening in front of your eyes.

Amazon’s killing a feature that let you download and backup Kindle books
It’s bad if you like to keep ebook backup copies.

So - you have just a few days left to use this feature to make a backup of your kindle library. USE IT NOW - just do it. I gave you a step by step guide back in Newsletter #83. Olly also describes it here. Yes, Amazon makes doing this rather difficult.

Going forward I will avoid Amazon wherever possible for book purchases and I will avoid sharing Amazon links where other links are available. There are alternatives (I have started using Kobo) and the more people who vote with their purchases elsewhere the better.

Look around you

Nineteen years after the initially suppressed release of Idiocracy, a film that was made to be an absurd depiction of societal trends, is now more true than ever. As we continuously subvert our own critical thinking, every single day we get closer and closer to this demented caricature of modern consumerism, which is now closer to some sort of blueprint than it is to an irrelevant comedy. UE does a great job to talk you through this:

The Grand Bargain?

I always enjoy reading Alex's take on things. He can be a bit contrarian and that's good. He also is well-read and he does lots of research on all that he presents. with all that is going on at present it is good to consider what the mainstream is not telling you. I have a couple of his recent articles here: Read and consider.

Is a Grand Bargain between US and Russia in the works?
The Grand Bargain could lead to a complete overhaul of the global order.

The people vs the banks

Now we’re getting closer to Mordor. The role of the banking cartel has been critical in defining the US-Russia relations, reminding us once more of Lord Acton's statement that, "The issue that has swept down the centuries and which will have to be fought sooner or later is the people versus the banks."

Why US-Russia relations matter more than anyone knew?
Hegel prophesized, that, America is the land where, in the ages that lie before us, “the burden of the World’s history shall reveal itself.” Those ages have begun.

For sure this fight is coming - if not now, then likely sooner than you imagine.

🤔 Closing Thoughts

Just one closing thought for this week - but it is an important one. Recall that we are now in the time following the breaking of the second seal when many things get unveiled.  The word "apocalypse" originates from the Greek word "ἀποκάλυψις" (apokálypsis), meaning "unveiling".

Jason has recently reviewed his analysis of the first and second seals and their corresponding horsemen. He has found and shares additional insights on these two seals.

In this video Jason takes things to the next level and also gives his first full analysis of what he expects for the third seal, launching with the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles with plenty of supporting evidence and references that you can check yourself - indeed he encourages you to do so.
